Mid-Semester Break

It’s mid-semester break here on the island. This means no school for Brandon and I.  It also marks the half-way point of the semester.  That means 7 more weeks on the island before we head home for Easter.  Mid-semester break isn’t really a break for Brandon.  He is at the library studying for the tests that he has Tuesday and Friday.  Also, he is preparing to be an anesthesiologist for a sheep this week! Here is to Brandon and hoping that all his hard-work pays off!

Side Note - As I am typing this, the cable and internet goes out (right in the middle of a show I was interested in). I called the cable company and they said, “where do you live”? I told them and they said, “oh yes, it will be out till at least 2:00,” but they did not say what day. The one day that I can enjoy watching TV...oh the joys of living on an island!

Plantation Tour: St. Kitts Style

This Saturday I was invited to go on an island tour with my boss and some of her family and friends.  It was neat traveling up the mountains and hills exploring things that I have not seen before.  Here is some of the pictures that I was able to capture.

Hip, Hip Hooray for the 100th Day!

Today my class and I celebrated one hundred days of fun and learning! To celebrate, they were catered to a 100th day breakfast. They had to bring 100 pieces of cereal and I provided the rest!  To mark the occasion, they made these cool 100th day glasses. The day was full of singing, dancing, writing and reading about the 100th day of school!

The Singing and Dancing Poet!

This week at the prep school, Bill Buczinsky is on hand to teach and inspire the students’ love for poetry. He is the creator of A Child’s Voice which inspires kids to play the game of poetry. After one thirty minute learning session, my first and second graders were able to come up with some nice pieces that they were proud to share.  It is truly inspiring to be a part of something so special! Events like this just make me sad that I will have to leave this wonderful school that has taught me SO much!

Sail Away!

On Sunday, Brandon and I were invited to go on a catamaran trip with one of my wonderful students and his family.  We had a wonderful time snorkeling, socializing and sharing a sunny day! It was a great way to relax and prepare for the busy weeks ahead.

A New Addition!

Brandon and I are proud to announce a new addition to our little family.........BB!  As you know, Freddy has been out of commission since December and we are not sure how long it will take to get him up and running again.  So, in the meantime, we found this little beauty and our friend Dave knew a lot about it and he thought it was a good deal.  On Friday, Brandon made this car ours and so we have wheels again!  Who would have ever thought that I would be excited about a 1998 Nissan Sunny sitting in my driveway.  Also, the back window is duck taped because someone broke into BB and stole his radio.  This was like this when we bought it, but it was a great selling point because this would have happened eventually! Oh the joys of living in St. Kitts.
And now without further a do..... BB!
Roar!!!

BB has automatic windows and locks, that actually work.

The air conditioner works too! YAY!

Practice!

On April 5th, Brandon will be conducting a mock surgery on his “Rossie”, which is a model of the female dog. The clinicians will access his surgery, suture and sterile technique. During the surgery, the clinicians will make sure that Brandon is specific in his commands to his technicians.  They will do exactly what he says, even though they already know how to do the surgery. He needed somebody who did not know anything about surgery to help him study, so I was the perfect candidate for the job! YIKES, talk about nerve raking. This is a big part of sixth semester and is a major part of his grade.  We will keep you all updated. Until then, here is a glimpse into our practice sessions.
